New spell games allow an eight-second response before a cast resolves. A Ward card cancels any spell. A Shield card cancels a hostile spell aimed at a friendly piece of its listed type. Pay the response card’s mana cost; both cards are spent. Pass to resolve immediately. Responses do not use your next turn’s spell. Clocks pause for this window. Private hosts can turn responses off.
Standard chess movement, castling, en passant, check and checkmate apply. Pawns promote to queens automatically. Kings cannot be targeted by spells. Spells cannot leave either king in check.
Both players receive five random cards from one shared deck of 100 core cards plus any crate cards unlocked by either player. Cards stay hidden until cast. Your opponent sees only how many you hold. On your turn, click Draw a card beside the board to draw once; drawing is optional and costs no mana.
Start with 3 mana, gain 1 per turn, and hold up to 8. Cast at most one spell before your normal chess move. The card’s cost is paid and its card is discarded. Some cards require choosing a piece and then a destination.
Hold up to seven cards. You cannot draw with a full hand or draw twice in one turn. The shared deck refills from the shared discard pile when empty. Only played cards are revealed. Build a 16-card selection in Deck workshop for Deck Duel and Competitive. Party modes have their own draw and mana rules.
Anchors stop enemy repositioning; Wards absorb one enemy targeting spell; Silence blocks friendly buffs but allows cleansing. Phasing modifies your next move. Fortune and Courage recover mana; Siphon drains it after a capture.
Afterimage leaves a one-turn blocker when the enchanted piece makes its ordinary move. Blockers stop both sides and disappear before your next turn. Waymarks first mark a piece’s square; another Waymark card returns it to that empty square within two squares. Renewal clears frost and silence.
Sign in and create a private room or challenge an accepted friend. Online actions, cards, mana and clocks are validated by the server. Older matches finish using their original fixed spells; new rooms use cards.
Use the speaker for distinct move, capture and spell sounds. The effects toggle controls animations and respects reduced motion. Install Arcana on your Home Screen and enable push notifications for challenges and turns.
